Hitachi’s concept excavator Landcros One has won a Red Dot design award.
The Landcros One concept was unveiled at the 2025 Bauma trade fair in Munich in April.
It was developed by Hitachi in collaboration with Granstudio to “illustrate a strategic shift in the brand’s positioning,” the publicity material says, “from a reliable solution provider to a leader in forward-thinking, technology-driven innovation”.
The design offers three powertrain options – electric, diesel or hydrogen – to meet the need for flexible and sustainable operations. Three operating modes – manual, AI-assisted and autonomous – accommodate varying skill levels of operators and allow for fully remote operation.

To enhance safety and reduce operator fatigue, it has integrated digital solutions such as AI-assisted controls, remote workstations and 360-degree sensor systems.
“Landcros One is more than just a machine,” said Francesco Quaranta, president and chief executive of Hitachi Construction Machinery (Europe). “It’s our commitment to deliver solutions beyond machinery in a new construction ecosystem.”
On receiving the Red Dot design award, he added: “We’re proud to lead the next wave of innovation, empowering the next-generation workforce and redefining possibilities in the construction machinery industry.”
